Mexico will forever have a special place in my heart because it was one of the first places I visited after graduation. The airport was super easy to navigate, the ride to the hotel was very smooth and I couldn’t wait to start exploring. Also, we were greeted with exotic cocktails on arrival at the hotel (A great way to start any vacation *wink*).
Mexico is a diverse tourist destination that offers a mix of experiences, from ancient Mayan ruins to clear beaches and water activities.
While there are tons of popular spots like Playa del Carmen, Puerto Vallarta, Tulum, and Cancun, this guide focuses mostly on Cancun, the crown jewel of Mexican tourism and where most of the action happens.
Follow along to discover new places to add to your Mexico itinerary.
Day 1: Check-In & Chill
Firstly, kick off your vacation by checking into your all-inclusive resort. Spend the afternoon exploring the resort amenities, lounging by the beach, and riding a jet ski on the beach if you’re feeling adventurous.
In the evening, grab dinner at one of the on-site restaurants. Afterward, check out the resort’s nightly entertainment or social events to ease into vacation mode.
Day 2: Cenotes, Ruins & Colonial Vibes

Chichén Itzá, Cenote Xunáan & Valladolid
Begin your day bright and early by heading out to Cenote Xunáan, a freshwater pool within a limestone cave.
After a refreshing swim, head to Chichén Itzá, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Explore the ruins, the Pyramid of Kukulcan, and the Great Ball Court.
End the day in Valladolid, a quiet city with pastel-colored shops and picturesque views.
Pro-Tip: I recommend booking a combo tour on Expedia or a similar site that covers all three spots. Many offer hotel pickup, guides, and lunch. Check out this Expedia tour that I did: Chichén Itzá, Cenote Xunáan & Valladolid with Traditional Lunch Buffet – Expedia – for CA$57.
Day 3: Market Finds & Legendary Nights
Morning – Shopping
Head downtown to Mercado 28 for souvenirs, jewelry, snacks, and local crafts. Coral Negro Flea Market is another great spot for quick finds. Don’t forget to bargain, it’s expected and part of the fun.
Night – Coco Bongo
Coco Bongo is one of the most iconic nightlife experiences for visitors to enjoy. It is a fusion of a nightclub and theater with electric performances inspired by popular music and movie legends. The show incorporates a variety of acrobatics and aerial stunts that are sure to keep you entertained and on the edge of your seat. Tickets start at US$75, and you can get yours at Coco Bongo Show.
Day 4: Choose Your Own Adventure
Option 1 – Xcaret Park
Spend the day at Xcaret Park in Riviera Maya. With over 50 attractions, you can float down underground rivers, see stingrays, explore wildlife exhibits, snorkel, or enjoy a dinner show at Gran Tlachco Theater. Entry starts at CA$167 and can be found here Xcaret Park. You can also book this recommended tour package on Expedia with buffet and optional transport Xcaret Park with Show (Buffet and Transport Optional).
Option 2 – ATVs, Ziplines & Cenote Swim
Prefer a thrill? Opt for a tour that combines jungle ATV rides, ziplines, and a cool-off swim in a Cenote. You can find the tour package here Quad bike, Ziplines & Mayan Cenote – starting at CA$103.
Day 5: Isla Mujeres Day Trip

Take a day trip to the stunning Isla Mujeres on a luxury catamaran. You can snorkel in the open sea and see the colorful tropical fish before arriving at the island. On the island, relax on the beach or at a beach club and enjoy some local food. Check out this tour starting at CA$178 Luxury Sailing to Isla Mujeres with Lunch & Premium Open Bar.
Getting Around
Most tours offer hotel pickup, but for those that don’t, it’s easy to get around. Use official taxis or rideshare apps as they are safer and more reliable.
Renting a car is a good option if you’re planning to explore beyond the city, but make sure you’re comfortable with local driving customs and road conditions.

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Mexico for perfect weather is November to April. The weather is warm and sunny, with minimal rain. The temperature ranges from 21°C to 29°C, making it perfect for beach and outdoor activities.
May to October is best for fewer crowds and better deals because this is the rainy season. Additionally, beware of hurricane season from June to November.
